Franklin candidates announced

 Tasmanian Greens leader Nick McKim has launched the Greens full candidate ticket for the Franklin electorate that will join him in contesting the 2010 state election.

Mr McKim said that the Franklin team is committed to improving the lives of all Tasmanians by addressing the massive hike in the cost of living incurred under 12 years of Labor, protecting our special places, and preparing the state for a carbon constrained future.

Adam Burling:
Former councillor, forest campaigner and current staffer for Senator Bob Brown, Adam Burling, 38 from Lucaston, will stand as second candidate behind leader Nick McKim MP. Adam has served the community for many years, helping to establish the Huon Valley Environment Centre and working tirelessly for Tasmania's native forests.

Wendy Heatley:
Standing third on the ticket Wendy, 46, from the Glebe, is a lawyer and public servant with an extensive background in leadership, legal, financial and innovations roles in the Federal and State Governments. She has concentrated on improving public sector services throughout her career and is concerned at the shocking rate that the cost of living in Tasmania has increased under Labor. Wendy previously contested the Legislative Council election for Pembroke in August this year.

Mark Harrison:
Mark, 27, from Kingston, is an accountant and Office Cadet with the Australian Army Reserve and will be standing as fourth candidate. He will work to increase integrity and transparency in government processes and to assist Tasmanian businesses achieve sustainable best practice.

Deborah Brewer:
Researcher and educator Deborah, 49, from Clifton Beach, is standing as the fifth member of the Franklin ticket, is passionate about education, and is committed to fixing the mess the Bartlett government has made of post year 10 education system.

Nick McKim MP said it is encouraging to see such a strong team standing up to attain outcomes for the community.

“We've had 12 years of a Labor government that has abandoned the Tasmanian people and the community has had enough of the bungling and backflipping of the Bartlett government. This Franklin team will campaign hard to address the issues that matter to the community including better health and housing services.”
